ANIMAL CARETAKER III

About the Role

Learn and develop individual skills based on work requirements in your designated work area. Work in a cohesive team environment to provide essential care to the animals. Expect 100% supervision for the first 30 days of employment, with a determination for progression to Animal Care Technician 2 made at 90 days.

Responsibilities

• Basic sow/gilt handling: feeding, watering, and moving
• Operating machinery and equipment
• Assisting with farrowing (birth)
• Assisting with breeding (artificial insemination)
• Handling and using chemicals
• Vaccinating and medicating sows and piglets
• Cleaning, managing afterbirth, and removing dead pigs
• Scraping and maintaining farm cleanliness
• Using computer equipment, including handheld devices and electronic wands
• Loading and unloading pigs as scheduled
• Adhering to all biosecurity standards, including showering in and out of facilities

Requirements

• A B.S. degree in Animal Science or equivalent
• Working knowledge of MS Office, including MS Excel (helpful)
• Valid driver’s license
• Working knowledge of sow farm management, swine animal welfare standards, biosecurity and health management processes, and safety and environmental procedures
• Previous animal care experience preferred but not required
• Team-oriented, self-motivated, and positive individual with a strong work ethic
• Willingness to work weekend and holiday hours as required on a rotational basis

Pay

$19.05 per hour
