About the role
The Animal Services Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations and services of the animal shelter, implementing humane care, treatment, sheltering, and adoption programs for animals.
Responsibilities
- Work weekends, holidays, nights, rotating shifts, respond to emergency animal services assignments during off-duty hours, and provide customer service to the community on designated days.
- Manage animal care and sheltering operations.
- Implement humane care and treatment programs for animals.
- Oversee adoption processes and promote animal welfare.
- Lead and supervise staff in animal care and sheltering environments.
Requirements
- High School diploma or GED with 5+ years of experience in animal care and shelter environment, including 2+ years in a supervisory capacity.
- Desirable coursework or training in animal science, animal behavior, public relations, or related fields.
- Valid Class “C” California driver’s license.
- State of California euthanization certificate when assigned to treatment.
- Certification in Animal Behavior or Professional Canine Training within the first 12 months of employment when assigned to care.
Qualifications
A typical way to meet the qualifications is through a combination of education and experience, including a high school diploma or GED, 5+ years of experience in animal care and shelter environment, and 2+ years in a supervisory capacity. Additional coursework or training in relevant fields is desirable.
