About the role

The Department of Anesthesiology at VCU Medical Center is seeking a candidate to provide care to patients as assigned by the Department Chair or Chair's delegate. This includes preanesthetic evaluation, intraoperative anesthetic care, postoperative rounds, resuscitation and intensive care, therapeutic/diagnostic nerve blocks, and consultation in cases of chronic pain. The successful candidate will also direct the activities of nurse anesthetists as assigned.

Responsibilities

• Teaching
• “Bedside” clinical teaching of residents, medical students, student nurse anesthetists and others
• Participates in the didactic teaching programs of the Department at this institution and attends conferences, rounds, and staff meetings as required by Chair
• Research
• May pursue clinical or laboratory research and other scholarly interests independently but within the guidelines of the Institution and Department
• Participate in clinical trials depending upon interest and area of specialization
• Service
• Serves on various departmental, School of Medicine, University or VCU Health System committees as requested by Chair or determined via individual interest
• Clinical
• Provide clinical anesthesiology care to patients as directed by Department Chair or delegate including main OR and ambulatory areas
• May supervise and direct Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNA) as appropriate
• Direct anesthesia care in other critical care areas of the medical center

Qualifications

• MD or DO degree
• ABA Board eligible/certified in Anesthesiology and/or certified/eligible for Critical Care Certification
• Eligible for unrestricted medical licensure in Virginia
• Eligible for employment in the United States
• Good communication, clinical and teaching skills
• Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU
