About the role
The Department of Anesthesiology at VCU Health is dedicated to providing the highest quality anesthetic and critical care to patients, advancing research and quality improvement in anesthesiology and perioperative medicine, and training future generations of anesthesiologists through residency and fellowship programs.
Responsibilities
- Teaching
- “Bedside” clinical teaching of residents, medical students, student nurse anesthetists and others
- Participation in didactic teaching programs of the department
- Attendance at conferences, rounds, and staff meetings as required by the Department Chair or Chair’s delegate
- Research
- Pursuit of clinical or laboratory research and other scholarly interests independently within departmental guidelines
- Participation in clinical trials depending on interest and area of specialization
- Service
- Serving on various departmental, School of Medicine, university, or VCU Health System committees as requested by the Department Chair or determined via individual interest
- Clinical
- Providing clinical anesthesiology care to patients as directed by the Department Chair or delegate, including main OR and ambulatory areas
- Supervision and direction of Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNA) as appropriate
- Directing anesthesia care in other critical care areas of the medical center
Qualifications
- MD or DO degree
- ABA board eligible/certified in anesthesiology and/or certified/eligible for Critical Care Certification
- Unrestricted medical licensure in Virginia
- Eligible for employment in the United States
- Good communication, clinical, and teaching skills
- Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism, and civility with a diverse population of faculty, staff, and students
