Anesthesia Student Employee

About the role

The Anesthesia Student Employee in Surgical Services plays a vital role in supporting the daily operations of the surgical department. This position is ideal for students interested in veterinary medicine, surgical care, or healthcare operations.

Responsibilities

• Assist with patient preparation prior to anesthesia.
• Transport patients, supplies, and equipment as directed.
• Clean, restock, and maintain anesthesia work areas, induction/recovery areas, and operating rooms.
• Maintain cleanliness and proper function of monitoring equipment, anesthesia machines, and surgical tools (excluding calibration and operation requiring credentialing).
• Observe and learn anesthetic procedures under the supervision of anesthesiologists and technicians, without performing anesthetic monitoring or drug administration.
• Assist with inventory management by stocking supplies, checking expiration dates, and organizing equipment.
• Participate in hands-on cross-training in the Operating Room (OR), including preparing surgical suites, setting up surgical instruments and equipment, assisting with sterile field maintenance (non-sterile role), patient positioning, and post-procedure room turnover.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled as a student at Auburn University
• Interest in veterinary medicine
• Ability to follow detailed protocols and maintain a sterile environment
• Strong communication and organizational skills
