Responsibilities
- Prepares and reviews staff reports, journal entries, and reconciliations related to plant accounting costs.
- Supports management in the preparation and review of key deliverables for SEC, FERC, and other external financial reports.
- Maintains compliance with regulatory orders and developments impacting accounting issues.
- Supports SOX compliance initiatives, ensuring documentation of internal controls over financial reporting.
- Provides expert leadership to plant accounting personnel, ensuring corporate and departmental goals are met.
- Participates in rate case statements, responses to data requests, and regulatory proceedings.
- Supports operating personnel and management with accounting needs for major projects.
- Ensures proper allocation of capital costs according to GAAP and FERC principles.
- Leads accounting projects and process improvements, implementing identified changes.
- Communicates with management on capital cost allocations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field, or equivalent college-level coursework for Nevada CPAs.
- 6+ years of related work experience in finance, accounting, budgeting, and utility plant accounting.
- Demonstrated knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Experience managing interdepartmental projects and prioritizing multiple issues and projects concurrently.
- Skills in analytical problem-solving, planning, time management, verbal and written communication, decision-making, presentation, organization, project management, and interpersonal relations.
- Ability to interpret accounting, financial, and economic information and understand regulatory requirements.
- Proficiency in using PCs, word processing, spreadsheet software, compliance reporting tools, and large-scale ERP software.
