The Department of Financial Protection and Innovation (DFPI) is California’s financial regulator, working to protect consumers by examining and licensing financial activities and taking action against unfair, deceptive, or abusive practices. We oversee state-chartered banks, credit unions, student loan servicers, and more. The DFPI has office locations in Los Angeles, Sacramento, San Diego, and San Francisco.

About the role

The Department of Financial Protection and Innovation is recruiting for one, Permanent, Full-time Analyst II position within the Division of Consumer Financial Protection's CRMLA Licensing Unit. This position is located in the Sacramento office and may be used to fill subsequent vacancies within the next 180 days.

The Analyst II performs a variety of journey-level analytical and regulatory duties supporting the Department’s licensing and oversight of California Residential Mortgage Lending Act (CRMLA) licensees. Under general direction, the incumbent:

  • Independently reviews and processes licensing applications and amendments;
  • Researches and interprets laws, regulations, and policies;
  • Prepares clear and accurate correspondence, reports, and deficiency notices;
  • Responds to inquiries from applicants, licensees, the public, and internal staff;
  • Evaluates information received from internal and external sources to determine whether further review or action is warranted;
  • Maintains records and documentation in statewide systems;
  • Coordinates licensing matters with examiners, management, and other DFPI units;
  • Provides administrative and program support to ensure consistent, timely, and compliant licensing operations.

Effective July 1, 2025, the California Department of Human Resources (CalHR) implemented the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025). PLP 2025 directs that each full-time employee shall receive a reduction in pay in exchange for PLP 2025 leave credits, monthly. SEIU Bargaining units will receive a 3 percent reduction in pay in exchange for 5 hours of PLP 2025 per month.

Requirements

  • Four years of work experience performing analytical, technical, clerical, and/or customer service duties. Academic education from an accredited college/university may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis;
  • An additional year of professional analytical and/or technical experience equivalent to an Analyst I, Range C.

Candidates who are within six months of satisfying the minimum qualifications will be admitted to the examination, but they must fully meet the requirement(s) before being eligible for appointment.

Pay

$6,031.00 - $7,547.00 per month. New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable. The salary range does not reflect the reduction in pay due to PLP 2025.

Schedule

Permanent, Full Time. In office, located in Sacramento.
