About the Team

The Barings Asset Based Finance (ABF) team in Australia is a specialist fixed income manager with deep expertise across Australian and international Residential Mortgage Backed Securities (RMBS) and Asset Backed Securities (ABS) markets. As a small, dynamic, and highly cohesive team, ABF Australia has delivered sustained growth in funds under management, creating a rare opportunity for a junior Analyst to join a motivated, high-performing business.

About the role

Barings is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Analyst to join our ABF team. This is an exciting opportunity for a recent graduate or early-career professional with a background or interest in finance. The successful candidate will support the investment team by providing analytical support, managing portfolio surveillance and reporting workflows, and preparing responses to a wide range of information requests from internal and external stakeholders. As their knowledge and experience grow, the successful candidate will develop a strong foundation in securitisation and they will have opportunities to contribute to portfolio analytics, quantitative modelling, investment research and other projects that support the investment process.

Responsibilities

  • Run daily and monthly processes critical to portfolio surveillance and reporting.
  • Manage timely and accurate reporting, including monthly investment performance metrics.
  • Respond to routine and ad-hoc information requests, including retrieving, collating, and analysing data, drafting concise written responses to qualitative questions, and ensuring the timely delivery of recurring outputs.
  • Assist with a broad range of portfolio management tasks alongside the Investment Team.
  • Manage and streamline recurring tasks through Excel models and tools.

Qualifications

  • A degree in Finance, Business, Accounting, or a similar discipline.
  • Advanced Excel skills.
  • Experience with VBA, DAX, and/or SQL a plus.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills, with a strong attention to detail.
  • An inherent attention to detail and a desire to get things right. The role is responsible for producing information relied upon by the investment team and external stakeholders, requiring a high standard of accuracy, consistency and accountability.
  • Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to simplify and present information clearly.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a small team environment.
  • Highly efficient in time management, with a structured and organised approach to work.
  • Securitisation knowledge is ideal but not essential.
