Summary of Work
AmeriCorps PAID Volunteers serve in elementary and secondary schools throughout Utah. They provide one-on-one and/or small group intervention support with a caseload of specific students identified by the school/district.
Member Key Responsibilities
- Promote student attendance and implement improvement strategies
- Provide or arrange for one-on-one tutoring and other academic supports
- Promote and provide social emotional learning support
- Connect students and families with community resources to help meet basic needs
- Enhance school-family connections and assist with home visits as needed
- Help students set and achieve weekly goals to take ownership of their academic and behavioral progress
- Recruit and train volunteers to assist with one-on-one tutoring, mentoring, or school events focusing on literacy, career and college options, family involvement, etc.
Member Qualifications
- High school graduate
- Age 18+
- US Citizen or lawful permanent resident
- High standards of professional ethics and conduct
- Desire to make a difference in your community
- Must submit to and pass an FBI background check/sex offender check conducted prior to hire
- Basic computer skills preferred, including experience with spreadsheets (training is available)
- Able to serve during typical school hours and onsite either in elementary or secondary schools
- Experience working with children or youth preferred
- Good organization & communication skills
- Punctual, reliable, and a team player

Wage
AmeriCorps PAID Volunteers are National Service Volunteers and not employees. Rather than an hourly rate, volunteers receive a monthly living allowance during their service term determined by the position type. The living allowance ranges from $600-$1,600/month.

- Education Award - At the end of each honorably completed service year, volunteers receive an education award that can be used for tuition, fees, and books at any accredited post-secondary institution or towards payment of student loans.
- Health Care Subsidy and Child Care Assistance (for full-time and reduced full-time volunteers) - A health insurance subsidy and child care assistance is available for full-time and reduced full-time volunteers serving 32+ hours/week.
- Student Loan Forbearance - All volunteers qualify for forbearance of payments on current student loans.
- On-going Professional Development and Support - Volunteers receive training, support and encouragement as well as check-in’s and site visits from our program staff during their term of service and ongoing access to the nationwide AmeriCorps Alumni Network that can help them with networking, employment and mentorship.
