AmeriCorps - Intake Specialist

About the role

The Center for Justice Innovation is seeking an Intake Specialist for the Red Hook Community Resilience Corps AmeriCorps National Service Program. This position supports the Alternative for Incarceration team (ATI) by conducting outreach, intake, and scheduling activities, supporting participant engagement, explaining program expectations, and identifying barriers.

Responsibilities

• Conduct outreach and intake, scheduling/rescheduling services, phone calls, and track attendance for program participants;
• Explain program expectations to participants in clear and supportive language;
• Support participant’s engagement in program and identify barriers to participation (e.g., transportation, housing instability, mental health, substance use needs);
• Liaise with community-based providers to facilitate, follow-up, and assist with voluntary or mandated services referrals;
• Enter, track, and maintain accurate case records in case management database, ensuring timely documentation;
• Prepare completion letters and/or compliance reports for program participants reflecting their attendance;
• Communicate with defense attorneys, prosecutors, and other BJI staff to clarify participant status, compliance, and next steps;
• Additional tasks as necessary.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent;
• Interest in working with communities and/or service;
• Bilingual (English-Spanish) preferred;
• Ability to communicate appropriately with varying levels of stakeholders;
• Highly organized, excellent communication skills, and strong writing ability with the capacity to be detail-oriented within a fast-paced environment;
• Candidate must be proficient in Microsoft and Google Suites, and be able to use Skype for Business;
• Candidate should have the ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds in a culturally-responsive manner and work independently and collaboratively.
