About the role

We are currently looking for an ASL interpreter to provide sign language interpretation services in various settings, including working with deaf, deafened, hard of hearing, and/or oral individuals.

Responsibilities

  • Effectively interpret between American Sign Language (ASL) and spoken English
  • Maintain compliance with any national, state, or local licensure and/or certification requirements
  • Adhere to guidelines for NAD-RID Code of Professional Conduct
  • Accurately complete assigned tasks/duties, projects, and paperwork promptly and within approved guidelines
  • Possess the ability to quickly learn and implement new and changing technologies
  • Possess the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic, highly regulated environment
  • Demonstrate willingness and ability to complete additional duties and assignments on an ongoing basis
  • Communicate and report to your team leader

Requirements

  • Fluency in English and American Sign Language (ASL)
  • Minimum 1 year interpretation experience preferred
  • Interpreter certification (RID – CDI)
  • Understanding of deaf culture, social experiences of deaf and hard of hearing persons, history of education for students who have various levels of hearing loss, and current pedagogical trends
  • Proven interpersonal skills when working with deaf and hearing-impaired persons, communication service providers, instructors, and administrators
  • Proficient computer skills including word processing, spreadsheets, email, electronic scheduling, and internet
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and within a team
  • Render correct concepts and meanings according to the conventions of established interpretation protocol, avoiding omissions or additions
