About the role

The Ambulatory Office Assistant I plays a crucial role in the patient-centered care team at Bassett Healthcare Network. They provide administrative and clinical support to ambulatory patient care teams, ensuring a high-quality patient experience through excellent customer service, attention to detail, and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as the first point of contact for patients within the Bassett Healthcare Network.
  • Demonstrates excellence in all patient and customer encounters, including face-to-face and telephone interactions.
  • Ensures a high quality patient experience by providing administrative and/or clinical support to ambulatory patient care teams.
  • Communicates clearly, accurately, and timely with nurses and providers regarding patients.
  • Accurately schedules patients for optimum care and provider efficiency.
  • Collects demographic and financial information during the scheduling and/or registration processes to ensure full and timely revenue capture.
  • Processes electronic or written requests for urgent and routine referrals, ensuring complete and accurate information is recorded.
  • Performs point-of-care testing, runs controls on point-of-care testing equipment, and updates log books.
  • Documents patient work-up information, such as vital signs and intake questions.
  • Communicates patient issues/concerns to providers and cleans and stocks exam rooms on a daily basis.
  • Completes basic patient demographic information on forms and prepares correspondence to patients and/or other entities.
  • Maintains sufficient clinic supplies and required forms for daily operations and attends required in-services as requested.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED, preferred.
  • Minimum one year relevant work experience (Associates degree or higher may be substituted).
  • Customer service experience, preferred.
  • Medical Office Assistant or Medical Assistant certification, preferred.
  • BLS certification within 6 months of date of hire.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to adapt to various work-flows, processes and policies to support the operations and patient care throughout the network.
