Ambulance Supervisor

About the role

The Ambulance Supervisor oversees and ensures the efficient operation of the ambulance department, requiring comprehensive knowledge of Nebraska state statutes, rules, regulations, and protocols related to emergency medical services (EMS). This position is available 24/7 to address both emergent and non-emergent department and patient concerns.

Responsibilities

• Knowledge of all current Nebraska state statutes, rules, regulations, and protocols.
• Available 24/7 for all emergent or non-emergent matters regarding the department or patient concerns.
• Maintain and update employee schedules as necessary.
• Create, maintain, and submit quarterly reports.
• Ensure employees keep accurate patient transport/care logs and complete eNARSIS and EHR reports.
• Attend all required supervisory meetings.
• Network with other directors/departments to ensure smooth workflow and continuity of case management.
• Maintain equipment and supplies or designate appropriate personnel to do so.
• Provide guidance and/or disciplinary action as needed.
• Handle complaints from patients, patient's family members, and/or the community regarding ambulance calls.
• Hire appropriate licensed/certified personnel to maintain adequate emergency services coverage.
• Attend leadership training.
• Maintain personnel records.
• Make rational, split decisions based on limited information.
• Submit and approve employee time sheets and leave requests.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Emergency Medical Technician Duties

• Knowledgeable in patient assessments, treatments, and procedures pertaining to EMS in accordance with Nebraska state regulations and protocols.
• Maintain a Nebraska state EMT license and current CPR (AHA) certification biannually.
• Attend all mandatory training to maintain EMT certification, including the minimum CEUs required by the state.
• Maintain confidentiality of patient and hospital matters.
• Report patient conditions to receiving hospitals via radio or cell phone, observing proper radio etiquette.
• Use proper channels of communication and chain of command.
• Maintain good time and attendance records; participate in staff meetings and trainings.
• Make sound decisions and solve problems based on data collected from patient assessments.
• Interact with patients, medical staff at receiving facilities, members of the Tribe, the general public, IHS facilities, providers, and officials of county, state, and federal agencies.
• Learn the main geographical area of operations and surrounding areas, including housing projects, rural homes, receiving hospitals, businesses, and roadways.
• Maintain a positive attitude toward the position and co-workers.
• Maintain cleanliness of the ambulance, all EMS equipment, and office/garage spaces.
• Keep accurate patient care/transport logs and complete eNARSIS and EHR reports within the required 72-hour time period.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
• At least 5 years' experience as an EMT.
• Valid Nebraska Driver's license and insurable.
• Current State of Nebraska EMT licensure.
• CPR certified (American Heart Association).

Physical Requirements

• Ability to sit, stand, bend, lift, and move intermittently during work hours.
• Work beyond normal working hours, including holidays, weekends, evenings, and potential shifts beyond 12 hours.
• Subject to personal injury, exposure to infectious waste, diseases, viruses, and hazardous conditions.
• Subject to harsh weather conditions and extreme temperature changes.
• Ability to see, hear, and lift heavy patients and equipment to meet job requirements.
• Good general health and emotional stability.
