About the role

Welds metal parts with gas welding equipment as specified by blueprints by performing the following duties.

Responsibilities

  • Ability to weld aluminum
  • Positions parts in jigs or fixtures on bench or floor, or clamps parts together along layout marks
  • Examines weld for bead size and other specifications
  • Repairs broken or cracked metal objects, fills holes, and builds up metal parts
  • Lays out, positions, and tack welds workpieces
  • Scarfs or grooves weld prior to applying filler metal
  • Chips or grinds off excess weld, slag, or spatter
  • Cleans or degreases parts
  • Ability to MIG weld
  • Ability to read AWS blueprints
  • Ability to perform physical aspects of the job including climbing step ladders, bending, stooping, reaching, lifting, and standing for long periods of time
  • Other duties may be assigned

Requirements

  • Requires standing for extended periods of time (10-12 hours)
  • Must be able to wear required PPE including a Powered Air Purifying Respirator (PAPR) weighing approximately 2.5 pounds for extended periods of time (10-12 hours)
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Must be able to work a schedule of four days on, then four days off

Essential Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to talk and hear
  • Required to stand, walk, climb, sit, balance, stoop, kneel, and crouch
  • Frequently required to use fingers, hands, and arms to handle and reach
  • Must frequently lift and/or move 5-30 lbs
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50+ lbs
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distant vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
  • Required to work four 10-hour days, occasionally working 40+ hours/week as business demands
  • Ability to wear protective gear due to fumes or airborne particles
  • Ability to frequently be exposed to flashing lights
  • Must occasionally be exposed to weather conditions such as: precipitation, extreme cold and extreme heat
  • Regularly required to wear hearing protection in a loud environment

Pay

Current starting pay: $23.27 per hour plus additional aluminum premium.

Schedule

Four 10-hour days on, followed by four days off. Occasionally working 40+ hours per week as business demands.
