About the role
Medomak Valley High School seeks an Alternative Education Teacher for students in grades 9-12 in mathematics and science. The position is for students who are struggling in traditional high school settings or are at risk of dropping out. The teacher collaborates with school counselors, administrators, and parents to address students' academic, behavioral, social-emotional, and attendance needs.
Responsibilities
- Provide standards-referenced instruction in a smaller classroom setting, focusing on core academic subjects and electives, employing various instructional methods and materials to meet diverse learning styles and needs.
- Create a positive, supportive, and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student participation, builds self-esteem, and promotes social-emotional learning.
- Monitor student progress, evaluate student learning, and provide timely and constructive feedback to students and parents.
Requirements
Certification in one area is required for this position and a strong foundation in mathematics or science is preferred as this position is paired with a second alternative instructor who holds a strong foundation in English or social studies.
