About the role
The Alternative Delivery Manager provides direction and management for all phases of alternative/collaborative delivery projects. This position involves every stage of the project lifecycle—from business development, teaming, pursuits, and proposals to active contract and design management. Success requires excellent verbal and written communication, the ability to multitask across internal and external teams, and quick, well-informed decision-making.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage alternative/collaborative delivery projects through all phases, including business development, teaming, pursuits, proposals, and contract/design management.
- Collaborate with internal Michels teams and external partners/clients to exceed project goals.
- Provide leadership and project management guidance on design-build pursuits and project delivery.
- Develop and maintain client relationships, both on the job and through networking.
- Engage in strategic planning with PM/PMO skills for large-scale, complex fiber optic builds.
- Manage client relationships during project pursuits and delivery.
- Build relationships with regulatory and permitting entities.
- Develop win strategies, pricing, project scheduling, technical writing, and change management protocols.
- Travel as required (potentially exceeding 50% depending on assignment).
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management or Civil Engineering, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 5+ years of project management, telecommunications, or construction management experience.
- Experience with telecommunications, permitting, and construction for large-scale, complex fiber optic buildouts nationally.
- Management experience leading a team (preferred).
- Experience in strategic planning roles with PM/PMO skills for large-scale fiber optic projects.
- Client management experience in project pursuits and delivery.
- Relationship-building experience with regulatory and permitting entities.
- Understanding of win strategies, pricing, project scheduling, and technical writing.
- Experience with alternative delivery projects (e.g., design-build, CMGC, progressive design-build).
- Construction experience in transportation engineering or projects (e.g., Highway DOT, bridges, foundations, retaining walls, federal projects).
- Familiarity with scheduling, estimating, and project controls software.
- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
Qualifications
- PE (Professional Engineer) and DBIA (Design-Build Institute of America) certifications (desired).
