Al Hilal SC Omdurman has appointed Josef Zinnbauer as its new head coach on a two-year contract, replacing Laurențiu Reghecampf.

About the Coach

Josef Zinnbauer, 56, brings extensive African and international experience to the role. He recently coached JS Kabylie in Algeria and has managed clubs across Africa, including Orlando Pirates in South Africa and Raja Casablanca in Morocco. With Raja Casablanca, he won the Moroccan Championship and the Moroccan Cup in the 2023/24 season, and previously secured the MTN8 Cup with Orlando Pirates in 2020/21.

Zinnbauer has also coached in Asia with Al Wehda in Saudi Arabia and in Europe with clubs such as Lokomotiv Moscow (Russia), Hamburger SV (Germany), and FC St. Gallen (Switzerland).

Team Context

Al Hilal appointed Zinnbauer following a period of transition after parting ways with Romanian coach Laurențiu Reghecampf. Interim head coach Guy Bukasa, who led the team during the recent CECAFA Kagame Cup, will now return to coaching Al Hilal’s reserve team and youth squads.

The club, which finished third domestically last season, is set to compete in the CAF Champions League this year, facing Aigle Noir CS of Burundi in the preliminary round. Al Hilal also aims to reclaim the Rwandan Championship title after securing it for the first time in the 2025/26 season.
