About the role

Mukura Victory Sports & Learning (VS&L) from Huye District in the Southern Province has hired Momcilo Medic as their new head coach to lead the team in pre-season preparations. The 64-year-old Serbian coach arrived in Rwanda on Wednesday, 5 June 2026, and proceeded directly to Huye to begin his duties.

Medic joined the team at Kamena Stadium during an evening training session, where he met and interacted with the players before officially starting his role.

Experience

Momcilo Medic is no stranger to the region, having previously coached Flambeau du Centre in Burundi, leading them to win the 2021/22 championship. He has also managed other teams in Africa, including:

  • Messager Ngozi (Burundi)
  • Royal Vision (Burundi)
  • Orlando Pirates (South Africa)
  • Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila (South Africa)
  • Enyimba FC (Nigeria)
  • Ashanti Gold (Ghana)
  • King Faisal FC (Ghana)
  • Power Dynamos (Zambia)

Prior to joining Mukura, Medic was coaching Amagaju FC in Nyamagabe District after Mukura parted ways with Canisius Nshimiyimana, who led the team in the 2025/26 season. Mukura had also previously negotiated with Czech coach Tomáš Trucha, but the deal fell through due to financial disagreements, with Trucha requesting 15 million RWF.

Team preparations

Mukura VS&L is currently in pre-season training for the upcoming 2026/27 football season. The team has signed several new players, including:

  • Ndagijimana Leandre (from Gasogi United)
  • Niyonizeye Telesphore (from AS Muhanga)
  • Abumuremyi (from AS Muhanga)
  • Freedom Mungudit, a Ugandan defender (from Lugazi FC)
  • Dusabimana Olivier, a midfielder (from Unity FC)
  • Niyonkuru Sadjati (from Etincelles FC)

The team, which wears red and black, has also renewed contracts with key players, including:

  • Irumva Justin (contract extended by 2 years)
  • Agyenim Boateng Mensah (contract extended by 1 year)

Additionally, three players have been promoted from the youth team to the senior squad: Tuyishime Kennedy, Ndagijimana Ashirafu, and Ishimwe Jean Pierre.
