Responsibilities
- Oversee the wheelchair operation to ensure all passengers requiring assistance are served in a manner that exceeds expectations
- Push passengers in a wheelchair to and from their arrival/departure gate
- Assist passengers with moving luggage to vehicles, taxi stands, parking shuttle stations, and rental car stations
- Maintain a friendly and positive attitude while being attentive to each passenger’s individual needs
- Communicate effectively and clearly, including asking safety and security questions
- Push wheelchair passengers safely down the jet bridge
- Ensure wheel brakes are in place prior to allowing passengers to exit the wheelchair
- Complete necessary wheelchair or incident reports
- Follow dispatcher gate orders
- Maintain professional working relationships with employees, supervisors, managers, airline employees, and airport authorities
- Exceed customer service standards
- Carry out other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Authorized to work in the United States
- Must be able to clear a background and drug screen
- At least one year of supervisory experience
- Airline experience preferred
- Able to lift up to 75 lbs and push a loaded wheelchair up to 300 lbs up and down inclines throughout the shift
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Complete all required training, including airport compliance
- Able to obtain an airport badge
Appearance Guidelines
- Present a professional business-like image at all times
- For male employees, a fully grown in, well-maintained mustache, beard, or goatee is permitted
- No visible tattoos or body piercings; tattoos must be covered by uniform or other means agreed upon by management
- Clean and well-maintained approved uniforms must be worn on shift
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to:
- Use hands and fingers and communicate with customers and fellow employees
- Sit, reach with hands and arms, stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, and crouch
- Twist, turn, stretch, and bend on a frequent basis
- Lift and move up to 75 pounds regularly
- Move in a relatively quick manner
Specific vision abilities required include close vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus.
