About the role

The Aircraft Mechanic Machinist II produces replacement parts and new parts in making repairs of metal parts of mechanical equipment. Work involves most of the following: interpreting written instructions and specifications, planning and laying out of work, using a variety of machinist's hand tools and precision measuring instruments, setting up and operating standard machine tools.

Responsibilities

  • Serving as a team leader through more complex aircraft relevant tasks
  • Making standard shop computations relating to dimensions of work, tooling, feeds, and speeds of machining
  • Knowledge of the working properties of the common metals, selecting standard materials, parts, and equipment required for this work
  • Fitting and assembling parts into mechanical equipment
  • Inspecting all required aeronautical type maintenance to be performed by skill class Mechanic I
  • Repairing engines, sheet metal, structural, hydraulic, electrical, power train and general mechanical maintenance of moderate difficulty
  • Inspection and repair of engines, sheet metal, structural, hydraulic, electrical, power train and general mechanical maintenance of moderate difficulty
  • Performing engine specialized repair activity

Requirements

  • Valid up-to-date A&P license
  • Two (2) years aviation maintenance experience, Three (3) years rotary wing aircraft experience, and Two (2) of the years on the assigned Mission Design Series (UH60, AH64, and/or CH47)
  • Five (5) years CNC experience
  • Thorough knowledge of aircraft mechanical component troubleshooting, repair procedures and replacement of parts
  • Broad knowledge of aircraft sheet metal/structural modifications and repair
  • Basic knowledge of electrical theory
  • Thorough knowledge of aircraft unique tools such as test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, sheet metal brakes and sheers
  • Working knowledge of technical publications and Logistics Information Systems

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Thorough knowledge of aircraft mechanical component troubleshooting, repair procedures and replacement of parts, requires broad knowledge of aircraft sheet metal/structural modifications and repair, must have basic knowledge of electrical theory, must have thorough knowledge of aircraft unique tools such as test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, sheet metal brakes and sheers
  • Read, Write and Communicate effectively in English
  • Ability to type using a standard keyboard to communicate through e-mail and software applications
  • Able to prioritize workloads to maintain schedules on assigned projects
  • Able to perform work in a shop where the environment is drafty, noisy, and dirty
  • Able to lift/push/pull minimum of 50 pounds
  • Able to pass a Respirator Physical and Fit Test qualification
