About the role
The Aircraft Mechanic III (LUH-72) A&P performs maintenance on helicopters, removing and installing aircraft subsystem assemblies, servicing and lubricating aircraft and subsystems, preparing aircraft for inspections, performing inspections, conducting maintenance checks, diagnosing and troubleshooting aircraft subsystems, using tools and equipment, preparing forms and records, and performing additional duties as requested.
Responsibilities
- Remove and install aircraft subsystem assemblies such as engines, rotors, gearboxes, transmissions, mechanical flight controls and their components.
- Services and lubricates aircraft and subsystems.
- Prepare aircraft for inspections and maintenance checks.
- Perform scheduled inspections and assist in performing special inspections.
- Perform limited maintenance operational checks and assist in diagnosing and troubleshooting aircraft subsystems using special tools and equipment as required.
- Use and perform operator maintenance on tools, special tools and aircraft ground support equipment.
- Prepare forms and records related to aircraft maintenance.
- Remove and disassemble defective parts of the aircraft.
- Maintain the supplies and perform preventive maintenance.
- Perform additional duties, including maintenance duties, as requested.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
- U.S. military technical school or specialized training course is desired; certification of education level is required.
- Five years aviation maintenance experience, five years rotary wing aircraft experience, and two years assigned to the MDS are required.
- A valid up-to-date A&P license is required.
- Valid Driver’s License is required.
Qualifications
- Thorough knowledge of aircraft systems on the assigned MDS.
- Advanced knowledge of aircraft unique tools such as test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, hydraulic press machine, and those listed in the assigned MDS Maintenance Allocation Chart (MAC).
- Working knowledge of technical publications and Logistics Information Systems.
- Able to prioritize workloads to maintain schedules on assigned projects.
- Possess the level of experience to inspect all required aeronautical type maintenance to be performed by aircraft mechanic.
Skills
- Possess the level of experience to inspect all required aeronautical type maintenance to be performed by aircraft mechanic.
- Receive technical guidance, as required, from supervisor or higher-level technician.
- Occasionally lead teams through more complex aircraft relevant tasks.
- May be required to make entries in aircraft logs and records.
Physical Requirements/Working Environment
- Must be able to walk and stand on level and/or inclined surfaces for extended periods throughout the day.
- Must be able to climb stairs, ramps, ladders, and work stands.
- Must be able to crouch, crawl, grasp or handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbow/knee and reach above/below shoulders.
- May be required to lift/push/pull heavy objects whose weight may exceed 50 pounds.
- Must be able to type using a standard keyboard to communicate through e-mail and various software applications.
- Will handle dirty parts and lubricants.
- Will be required to wear proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Must be able to pass a Respirator Physical and Fit Test qualification.
- May be required to operate power vehicles, machinery, hand tools, ground support equipment, forklift, etc.
- May work in maintenance shop or outside.
- Must be able to work in a shop where the environment is drafty, noisy, and dirty.
- May be exposed to extreme noise from operating equipment.
- May be exposed to electrical shock hazards or work near moving mechanical parts or vehicles.
- May be expected to work in austere environments and all-weather conditions.
Compensation Details
$39.26/Hr + H&W $5.20
