About the role

Aircraft Mechanic III (LUH72) A&P performs scheduled and unscheduled aircraft maintenance, including repairs, modifications to aircraft structures, structural components, and engines of complex to extreme difficulty. Maintains and repairs aircraft components such as flight controls, engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, fuel systems, and mechanical components. Applies technical knowledge of airframe and power plant systems to determine equipment malfunctions and solve complex problems by interpreting technical data, including blueprints and manufacturer manuals.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair aircraft mechanical components, requiring broad knowledge of sheet metal/structural modifications and repair.
• Determine functionality of complex and non-complex electrical systems.
• Perform inspections, including preflight, thru-flight, basic post-flight, and phase inspections.
• Launch and recover aircraft as required.
• Perform operational checks of all aircraft systems and maintain aircraft appearance and cleanliness.
• Operate ground support equipment and use hand tools, special tools, and fixtures applicable to aircraft.
• Perform all tasks associated with ground movement of aircraft.
• Annotate maintenance actions in aircraft records/forms and complete associated CAMS entries.
• Practice good housekeeping, tool control, FOD awareness/prevention, and safety at all times.
• Accomplish repairs and modifications using aircraft unique tools such as test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, sheet metal brakes, sheers, and cable tensiometers.
• Make entries in aircraft logbooks, records, military technical publications, and the Army's Unit Level Logistics Aviation Information System (ULLSAE).
• Perform other qualified duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Thorough knowledge of aircraft mechanical component troubleshooting, repair procedures, and replacement of parts.
• Thorough knowledge of aircraft sheet metal/structural modification and repair.
• Basic knowledge of electrical theory and ability to determine functionality of non-complex electrical systems.
• Working knowledge of making entries in aircraft logbooks, records, military technical publications, and ULLSAE.
• Detailed knowledge of aircraft unique tools such as cable tensiometers, test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, sheet metal brakes, and sheers.
• Ability to read, interpret, and comprehend schematic diagrams, drawings, charts, and technical publications.
• Must be able to routinely lift and/or move objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Must be able to perform duties including standing, lifting, bending, pushing, and pulling for extended periods.
• Frequently required to climb or balance, work in small spaces, and work at heights at or above 40 feet.
• Must have a working knowledge of aircraft safety requirements and operation of portable firefighting equipment.
• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Must provide own tools/toolbox; tools must be shadowed and etched with PID.
• Must be able to travel as required for LUH missions to various locations.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a NACI (T1) Public Trust Security Clearance and facility credentials/authorization; US Citizenship is required.

Qualifications

• Valid up-to-date A&P license or five years aviation maintenance experience, five years rotary wing aircraft experience, and two years on the assigned Mission Design Series (MDS). All experience must be within the ten most recent years.
• All mechanics assigned to perform maintenance on FAA certified aircraft must meet FAA requirements.
• Must possess the level of experience necessary to inspect all required aeronautical type maintenance performed by skill class Mechanic I.
• Must have a combination of experience to repair engines, sheet metal, structural, hydraulic, electrical, power train, and general mechanical maintenance of moderate difficulty to meet assigned missions.
• Driver’s License required.

Physical Requirements

• Work conditions may range from comfortable environments to exposure to inclement weather, including severe temperature changes, wind, rain, snow, and ice.
• May be required to work in areas with high noise hazards.
• May be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, and electrical shock hazards.
• Must routinely lift and/or move objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Frequently required to stand, lift, bend, push, pull, climb, balance, and work in small spaces or at heights at or above 40 feet for extended periods.

Pay

$44.45 - $49.22 per hour. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as job responsibilities, education, experience, skills, internal equity, market data, applicable collective bargaining agreements, and relevant laws.
