About the role

An Aircraft Mechanic III (UH-60/AH-64/CH-47) maintains, repairs, and modifies aircraft structures, structural components, and engines of complex to extreme difficulty. Maintains and repairs aircraft components including flight controls, engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, fuel systems, and mechanical components. Applies technical knowledge of airframe and power plant systems in determining equipment malfunctions and restoring equipment condition and operation. Provides guidance and technical expertise to lower-level technicians throughout all aircraft modifications and maintenance efforts.

Responsibilities

• Service and lubricate aircraft and subsystems.
• Safety prepare aircraft for inspections and maintenance checks.
• Perform scheduled and special inspections.
• Perform limited maintenance operational checks and diagnose/troubleshoot aircraft systems using special tools and test equipment.
• Use and perform operator maintenance on tools, special tools, and aircraft ground support equipment.
• Apply comprehensive technical expertise to solve moderate to complex problems by interpreting technical data such as blueprints, manuals, and technical guidance.
• Make entries in aircraft logs and records.
• Lead teams through complex aircraft tasks and prioritize workloads to meet delivery schedules.
• Participate in operational checks as required.
• Inspect aeronautical maintenance performed by Mechanic I skill class.
• Perform repairs on engines, sheet metal, structural, hydraulic, electrical, power train, and general mechanical components.
• Perform other qualified duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Valid up-to-date A&P license.
• Five years of aviation maintenance experience, five years of rotary wing aircraft experience, and two years on the assigned MDS (all within the ten most recent years).
• Experience necessary to inspect aeronautical maintenance and repair engines, sheet metal, structural, hydraulic, electrical, power train, and general mechanical components.
• Thorough knowledge of aircraft mechanical component troubleshooting, repair procedures, and replacement of parts.
• Basic knowledge of electrical theory.
• Thorough knowledge of aircraft unique tools (e.g., test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, sheet metal brakes, sheers).
• Working knowledge of aircraft logbooks, military technical publications, and the Army’s Unit Level Logistics Aviation Information System (ULLSAE).
• Thorough knowledge of aircraft sheet metal and structural modification and repair.
• Ability to determine functionality of non-complex electrical systems.
• Detailed knowledge of aircraft unique tools such as cable tensiometers.
• Provide own shadowed and PID-etched tools/toolbox.
• High school diploma or equivalent.

Clearance Requirements

• Must be able to obtain and maintain a NACI(T1) Public Trust Security Clearance.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization.
• U.S. citizenship is required for facility credentials/authorization.

Physical Requirements

• Frequently lifts parts and equipment up to 25 pounds; occasionally lifts up to 50 pounds (most heavy lifting is done using mechanical devices).
• Work is performed in an aircraft maintenance hangar that is moderately lighted, heated, and ventilated, as well as outdoors.
• May be required to respond to operational circumstances including extreme weather conditions and rudimentary infrastructure.
• Regularly required to stand, use hands, talk, hear, walk, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
• Occasionally required to sit, climb, or balance.
• May be exposed to extreme noise from turbine and jet engine aircraft, fumes, airborne particles, electrical shock hazards, or moving mechanical parts/vehicles/aircraft.

Pay

$39.13 hourly pay rate + $5.00 H&W (Health and Welfare).
