Aircraft Mechanic I, Electrician

Amentum is hiring qualified Aircraft Electrician Mechanics I to support U.S. Navy Aviation maintenance operations at NAS Oceana, Virginia Beach, VA (VFA-106).

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot malfunctions in aircraft structure, landing gear, flight surfaces and controls, anti-icing, pneudraulic, engines, auxiliary power unit, and ventilation and heating systems.
• Repair, replace, and rebuild aircraft structures (e.g., wings, fuselage) and functional components (e.g., rigging, surface controls, plumbing, hydraulic units) using hand tools, power tools, machines, and equipment such as shears, sheet metal brakes, welding equipment, rivet guns, and drills.
• Read and interpret manufacturers' and airline maintenance manuals, service bulletins, technical data, engineering data, and other specifications to determine feasibility and methods for repairing or replacing malfunctioning or damaged components.
• Perform progressive, phase, periodic, and other hourly, conditional, or calendar inspections.
• Examine reciprocating engines for cracked cylinders and oil leaks; listen to operating engines to detect and diagnose malfunctions (e.g., sticking or burnt valves).
• Inspect jet engines and components for cracks, corrosion, foreign object damage, burned areas, distortions, security, warping, wear, and missing segments.
• Inspect jet engine turbine blades for cracks, distortion, corrosion, burn-out, security, or breaks.
• Test engine operation using testing equipment (e.g., ignition analyzer, compression checker, distributor timer, ammeter, Jetcal tester) to locate sources of malfunction.
• Replace or repair worn or damaged components (e.g., carburetors, alternators, magnetos, fuel controls, fuel pumps, oil pumps, engine-mounted gearboxes, compressor bleed valves) using hand tools, gauges, and testing equipment.
• Remove engines from aircraft using hoists or forklifts; disassemble, inspect parts for wear, cracks, or defects; repair or replace defective parts; and reassemble and reinstall engines.
• Adjust, repair, or replace electrical wiring systems and aircraft accessories.
• Perform preflight, thru-flight, and post-flight maintenance inspections.
• Service aircraft by flushing crankcases, cleaning screens and filters, greasing moving parts, and checking brakes.
• Supervise jacking and towing of aircraft.
• Document maintenance records, describing work performed and verifying satisfactory completion.
• Service engines and airframe components at line stations, making repairs short of overhaul to maintain safe operating conditions.
• Specialize in repair and modification of structural, precision, and functional spare parts and assemblies, or in engine repair.

Requirements

• Shift work and detachments are required.
• Must obtain Collateral Duty Inspector (CDI) certification within 30 days of hire/promotion.
• Minimum three (3) years of actual and recent organizational-level F/A-18 aircraft maintenance experience. Internal candidates at CFT NAS Oceana (VA993) may bypass the 3-year requirement by passing all three (3) required CDI qualification tests.
• Completion of Navy Aviation Electrician AE “A” School.
• Knowledge and use of special tools/equipment required for assigned maintenance tasks.
• Must be physically able to perform all assigned duties, including standing, climbing, bending, and stooping for extended periods.
• Valid Virginia or North Carolina Driver’s license (if North Carolina resident).
• Ability to read and interpret technical publications, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Must pass a U.S. Government background security check and maintain favorable fingerprints in EQIP; may require completion of SF-85/86 in EQIP to maintain a CAC card.
• Must obtain an approved status from the Contractor Verification System (7-year background check) and obtain a Security Clearance for Public Trust.
• Must obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization (U.S. citizenship required).
• Work is performed primarily outdoors in all weather conditions, with exposure to loud noise and exhaust fumes.

Preferred Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Three (3) years of prior F/A-18 A-G Collateral Duty Inspector/Quality Assurance Representative experience or FAA A&P License.
• Ramp Stamp (restricted/unrestricted).
• Experience with equipment such as A/S32A-45 Tow Tractor, LFCU, A/M32T-5, A/M32T-7, A/M32A-108, A/M24M-6 power carts, A/M32C-21 A/C cart, or APU/Low Power Turn Operator.

Pay

The hourly rate for this position is $37.57 per hour, plus $7.80 per hour (up to 40 hours per week) for Health & Welfare.
