Aircraft Electrician Mechanic I

Amentum is hiring qualified Aircraft Electrician Mechanics I to support U.S. Navy Aviation maintenance operations at NAS Norfolk, VA (VAW-120).

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot malfunctions in aircraft structure, landing gear, flight surfaces and controls, anti-icing, pneudraulic, engines, auxiliary power unit, and ventilation and heating systems.
• Repair, replace, and rebuild aircraft structures (e.g., wings, fuselage) and functional components (e.g., rigging, surface controls, plumbing, hydraulic units) using hand tools, power tools, machines, and equipment such as shears, sheet metal brakes, welding equipment, rivet guns, and drills.
• Read and interpret manufacturers' and airline maintenance manuals, service bulletins, technical data, engineering data, and other specifications to determine feasibility and methods for repairing or replacing malfunctioning or damaged components.
• Perform progressive, phase, periodic, and other hourly, conditional, or calendar inspections.
• Inspect reciprocating engines for cracked cylinders and oil leaks; listen to operating engines to detect and diagnose malfunctions (e.g., sticking or burnt valves).
• Inspect jet engines and components for cracks, corrosion, foreign object damage, burned areas, distortions, security, warping, wear, and missing segments.
• Inspect jet engine turbine blades for cracks, distortion, corrosion, burn-out, security, or breaks.
• Test engine operation using testing equipment (e.g., ignition analyzer, compression checker, distributor timer, ammeter, Jetcal tester) to locate sources of malfunction.
• Install, maintain, and service aircraft engines, fuel and lubrication systems, drive accessories, gearboxes, and related components.
• Handle and service aircraft both ashore and aboard ships.
• Perform complete aircraft turboshaft/turboprop engine repair, analyze engine degradation using oil analysis tests, and evaluate jet engine performance for fixed turbojet engines.
• Perform propeller repairs, replacing or repairing worn or damaged components (e.g., carburetors, alternators, magnetos, fuel controls, fuel pumps, oil pumps, engine-mounted gearboxes, compressor bleed valves) using hand tools, gauges, and testing equipment.
• Remove engines from aircraft using hoists or forklifts; disassemble, inspect parts for wear, cracks, or defects; repair or replace defective parts; and reassemble and reinstall engines.
• Adjust, repair, or replace electrical wiring systems and aircraft accessories.
• Perform preflight, thru-flight, and post-flight maintenance inspections.
• Perform miscellaneous duties to service aircraft (e.g., flushing crankcase, cleaning screens and filters, greasing moving parts, checking brakes).
• Supervise jacking and towing of aircraft.
• Document work performed in maintenance records and verify satisfactory completion.
• Service engines and airframe components at line stations, making repairs short of overhaul to maintain safe operating condition.
• Specialize in repair and modification of structural, precision, and functional spare parts and assemblies, or engine repair as needed.
• May be required to obtain licensure by the Federal Aviation Administration.

Requirements

• Shift work and detachments are required.
• Must obtain Collateral Duty Inspector (CDI) certification within 30 days of hire/promotion.
• Minimum five years of actual and recent organizational-level E-2C/D aircraft maintenance experience, with three years of prior E-2C/D CDI or Quality Assurance Representative experience.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Completion of Navy Aviation Electrician AE “A” School.
• Knowledge and use of special tools/equipment required for assigned maintenance tasks.
• Physical ability to perform all assigned duties, including passing any required medical examinations.
• Valid Virginia or North Carolina driver’s license (if North Carolina resident).
• Ability to read and interpret technical publications, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Self-motivated with minimal supervision required.
• Ability to meet physical requirements, including lifting items weighing 15–45+ pounds, standing, climbing, bending, stooping, kneeling, crawling, and working in tiring or uncomfortable positions.
• Ability to perform off-site service on assigned detachments.
• Must pass a 7-year background check for Contractor Verification System approval.
• Must obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization (U.S. citizenship required).
• Must obtain T3 Secret Eligible Status.

Qualifications

• Ramp Stamp (restricted/unrestricted).
• A/S32A-45 Tow Tractor certification.
• LFCU; A/M32T; A/M32T-7; A/M32C-21 A/C Cart certification.
• A/M32A-108; A/M24M-6 power carts certification.
• Confined Space Qualified (Entrant/Safety Observer).
• APU/Low Power Turn Operator certification.

Work Environment

• Work is performed primarily outdoors in all weather conditions, with exposure to loud noise and exhaust fumes.
• Regularly required to stand, climb, bend, stoop, use hands, talk, hear, walk, reach, and kneel.
• Frequently lifts items weighing 15–25 pounds; occasionally lifts items in excess of 45 pounds.

Pay

Hiring hourly rate: $38.74 (set by Collective Bargaining Agreement).

• Current rate: $38.74/hour.
• On or around 6/1/2027: $39.90/hour.
