Aircraft Worker, Electrician

Amentum is hiring qualified Aviation Electrician Technicians to support U.S. Navy Aviation maintenance operations at NAS Oceana, Virginia Beach, VA (VFA-106).

About the role

The Aircraft Worker performs repairs to aircraft under the direction of higher-grade technicians and assists in troubleshooting malfunctions in various aircraft systems, including structure, landing gear, flight surfaces, anti-icing, pneudraulic, engines, auxiliary power units, and ventilation/heating systems.

Responsibilities

• Repair, replace, and rebuild aircraft structures (e.g., wings, fuselage) and functional components (e.g., rigging, surface controls, plumbing, hydraulic units) using hand tools, power tools, and equipment such as shears, sheet metal brakes, welding equipment, rivet guns, and drills.
• Read and interpret manufacturers' and airline maintenance manuals, service bulletins, technical data, and engineering specifications to determine repair feasibility and methods.
• Perform progressive, phase, periodic, and other hourly, conditional, or calendar inspections on aircraft and engines.
• Inspect reciprocating engines for cracked cylinders and oil leaks; listen to operating engines to detect malfunctions (e.g., sticking or burnt valves).
• Inspect jet engines and components for cracks, corrosion, foreign object damage, burned areas, distortions, security, warping, wear, and missing segments.
• Test engine operation using equipment such as ignition analyzers, compression checkers, distributor timers, ammeters, and jet calibration (Jetcal) testers to locate malfunctions.
• Replace or repair worn/damaged components (e.g., carburetors, alternators, magnetos, fuel controls, fuel pumps, oil pumps, engine-mounted gearboxes, compressor bleed valves) using hand tools, gauges, and testing equipment.
• Remove engines from aircraft using hoists or forklifts; disassemble, inspect, repair, or replace defective parts; reassemble and reinstall engines.
• Adjust, repair, or replace electrical wiring systems and aircraft accessories.
• Perform preflight, thru-flight, and post-flight maintenance inspections.
• Service aircraft by flushing crankcases, cleaning screens/filters, greasing moving parts, and checking brakes.
• Supervise jacking and towing of aircraft; document maintenance work and verify satisfactory completion.
• Service engines and airframe components at line stations, making repairs short of overhaul to maintain safe operating conditions.
• Specialize in structural, precision, or functional spare parts repair/modification, or engine repair as needed.
• Maintain U.S. Government security clearance, including passing background checks and fingerprinting in EQIP; complete SF-85/86 forms for CAC card eligibility.

Requirements

• Must have completed Navy Aviation Electrician Technician AE “A” School.
• Knowledge and use of special tools/equipment for assigned maintenance tasks.
• Physically able to perform duties, including standing, climbing, bending, and stooping for extended periods.
• Valid Virginia or North Carolina driver’s license (if a North Carolina resident).
• Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions, with exposure to loud noise and exhaust fumes.
• Ability to read and interpret technical publications, safety rules, operating/maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Self-motivated with minimal supervision required.
• Must meet physical requirements and pass medical examinations related to daily tasks.
• U.S. citizenship required for facility credentials/authorization.
• Must obtain T3 Secret Eligible Status and pass a 7-year background check for Contractor Verification system approval.
• Shift work and detachments are required; may perform off-site service on assigned detachments.

Preferred Qualifications

• 3 years of F/A-18 A-G O-level aircraft system maintenance experience.
• Ramp Stamp (restricted/unrestricted).
• Experience with A/S32A-45 tow tractor, AM32A-108, or A/M24M-6 power cart.

Pay

The hourly rate for this position is $34.86 per hour, plus $7.80 per hour (up to 40 hours per week) for Health & Welfare.
