Full-time, on-site position based in Teterboro, NJ, USA (may support either Teterboro, NJ or White Plains, NY locations depending on aircraft demand).

About the role

As a Flex Aircraft Maintenance Technician at West Star, you will perform a variety of mechanical tasks on sophisticated civilian aircraft. Each day brings new experiences and opportunities for growth, including troubleshooting electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems, as well as performing inspections and repairs.

Responsibilities

  • Perform general mechanical tasks on aircraft and related systems
  • Remove and install panels and components
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to aircraft systems and components
  • De-fuel aircraft
  • Perform engine removal and installations
  • Operate ground support equipment
  • Inspect and evaluate aircraft and components
  • Move aircraft and assist in performance runs/taxing
  • Maintain and repair shop facility, equipment, and tooling
  • Immediately notify the Lead Mechanic of any problem areas such as parts, materials, workmanship, or airworthiness issues
  • Provide the Lead Mechanic with a detailed report on work progression and open items for the shift turnover log
  • Properly tag aircraft components, parts, and panels; ensure they are appropriately stored, including racks by aircraft
  • Navigate electronic training, manuals, and maintenance databases using basic computer skills
  • Work rotating shifts, including nights, holidays, weekends, and days off
  • Communicate effectively and clearly in English (speaking, writing, reading)
  • Attend work as scheduled, including overtime and weekend assignments
  • Notify your supervisor in advance if unable to work
  • Follow Federal Aviation Administration guidelines and company safety rules
  • Maintain customer-oriented work habits

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Airframe and Powerplant License (required)
  • Valid driver’s license approved for airline travel and/or a valid passport (ideal)
  • Self-motivated and able to perform in a fast-paced environment with specific deadlines
  • Reliable transportation to get to work each day

Physical Requirements

  • Lift up to 70 lbs
  • Routine walking, bending, squatting, or sitting
  • Routine or repetitive physical motion with arms and hands
  • Work on elevated platforms (up to 40 ft. in the air) using fall protection safety gear
  • Work in small, restricted areas
  • Stand for long periods

Mental Requirements

  • Understand and implement regulations and guidelines
  • Troubleshoot or evaluate system operations
  • Work with others in a professional manner

Working Conditions

  • Work performed in a hangar environment subject to extreme temperature variations (very cold to very hot)
  • Work outside during aircraft runs
  • Varied positions in and around the aircraft

Equipment Used

  • Personal hand tools (supplied by the mechanic)
  • Pneumatic, hydraulic, and electrical equipment
  • Jacks, stands, lifts, and other support devices
  • Tugs, power carts, and other engine-powered equipment

Pay

The hourly rate for this position generally ranges between $30.00 and $60.00. Actual hourly rate varies based on factors including location, experience, and performance. Additional compensation includes a shift differential for alternate shifts, a semi-annual discretionary bonus, 401(k) company match, and employer contributions to a Health Savings Account (HSA).
