Air Quality - Principal
About the role
As an Air Quality Principal, you will lead air permitting and regulatory compliance programs for private-sector clients with complex technical and regulatory issues in the manufacturing, oil & gas, power, and mining industry consulting groups. You'll develop and maintain strong relationships with clients to understand their processes and develop permitting and compliance strategies to help their facilities maintain operating flexibility.
You will represent the company at conferences and in meetings to resolve project issues, plan and coordinate work, and negotiate contracts. You will work closely with other CEC air quality practice members across the country to develop opportunities, build business relationships, and apply best practices to address client needs. Additionally, you will mentor junior and mid-level staff in the proper planning and execution of air quality projects and in directing or conducting technical reviews of client deliverables.
Responsibilities
- Lead air permitting and regulatory compliance programs for private-sector clients.
- Develop and maintain client relationships to understand processes and create compliance strategies.
- Represent the company at conferences and meetings to resolve project issues and negotiate contracts.
- Coordinate with CEC air quality practice members nationwide to develop opportunities and apply best practices.
- Mentor junior and mid-level staff in project planning, execution, and technical reviews.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in engineering, environmental science, or a related degree.
- 15+ years of relevant experience in air quality and compliance.
- Consulting or industry experience with NSR Construction Permitting, Title V, federal and state air regulations, and regulatory compliance assistance.
- Established relationships with Illinois EPA and other regional air pollution control agencies.
- Exceptional communication, strategic thinking, negotiation, and presentation skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Well-established reputation and recognition as a technical expert in the marketplace.
- Professional Engineering license in Illinois.
- Proven experience in business development for air quality and regulatory compliance projects, with the ability to contribute to new sales.
- Established relationships with industrial trade and professional organizations, as well as large private-sector industrial companies in the Midwest.
