About the Role
The Assistant General Manager plans, directs, and coordinates activities to optimize the use of equipment, facilities, and personnel through subordinate staff. This role involves consulting with airport management, managing and motivating operational personnel, and collaborating with upper management to formulate administrative and operational policies. The Assistant General Manager analyzes daily operations, reviews financial and operational reports, and prepares recommendations to increase profitability. They also approve requisitions, recommend capital expenditures, and ensure compliance with corporate security programs and TSA legislation.
Responsibilities
- Read, analyze, and interpret common technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
- Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Respond to inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or business community members.
- Apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
- Interpret a variety of instructions and handle abstract and concrete variables.
- Effectively present information to top management and/or boards of directors.
- Maintain and control all required aspects of the operation in accordance with corporate security programs and TSA legislation.
- Ensure company audit requirements are met for continuity and compliance.
- Implement and clarify the site-specific security plan, ensuring all WFS staff display company IDs.
- Enforce compliance with administrative policies, procedures, safety rules, and governmental regulations.
- Direct investigations into internal and external complaints related to the facility.
- Negotiate contracts with equipment and materials suppliers as needed.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university; or two to five years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to manage and motivate personnel.
- Strong organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in air cargo logistics, with working knowledge of cargo operations, safety procedures, and applicable industry standards.
- Ability to write memos conforming to prescribed style and format.
- Fluency in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English.
- Regular and timely attendance.
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
- Remain in a stationary position 50% of the time.
- Occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
- Ability to lift up to 35 lbs.
- Constantly operate a computer and other office productivity machinery (e.g., calculator, copy machine, printer).
- Walk short distances.
- Reach above and/or below shoulder level.
- Handle/grasp documents or office equipment.
- Sit and/or stand for short or extended periods.
- Lift, carry, or move objects, files, and documents up to 10 pounds.
- Work in an office environment using standard office equipment.
- Talk, listen, and speak clearly on the telephone.
- Maintain regular and punctual attendance consistent with ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards.
