AI Consultant

About the role

We are looking for an AI Consultant to support a finance transformation initiative for a client based in Portland, Maine. This long-term contract position will focus on strengthening financial systems, streamlining reporting workflows, and applying practical AI solutions to improve efficiency across Finance and FP&A.

The ideal candidate brings deep experience with finance platforms, automation strategy, and process redesign, along with the ability to turn complex operational needs into scalable technology solutions.

Responsibilities

• Review the current finance technology environment and recommend improvements that increase accuracy, usability, and operational efficiency across core platforms.
• Build automated processes for recurring accounting activities such as close tasks, journal entries, reconciliations, and routine reporting deliverables.
• Create clear financial dashboards and performance reporting tools that give leadership better insight into trends, results, and key business metrics.
• Strengthen system connectivity and data consistency across applications including QuickBooks Online Advanced, Maxio, HubSpot, Rippling, Brex, and related tools.
• Replace heavily manual spreadsheet-based work with more reliable automated workflows and standardized processes.
• Identify, test, and implement AI capabilities using tools such as Claude, ChatGPT Enterprise, Microsoft Copilot, and similar technologies within finance operations.
• Develop practical AI-supported solutions for forecasting, variance review, expense coding, financial analysis, and executive-level reporting.
• Partner with stakeholders to assess workflow gaps, define automation opportunities, and support ongoing optimization of finance and reporting processes.

Requirements

• 7+ years of experience in finance transformation, financial systems consulting, or a related advisory role.
• Strong hands-on knowledge of QuickBooks Online Advanced, Maxio, HubSpot, Rippling, Brex, and connected finance applications.
• Demonstrated success delivering automation for month-end close, financial reporting, reconciliations, and broader accounting workflows.
• Experience designing dashboards, reporting frameworks, and integrated data solutions that improve financial visibility and decision-making.
• Practical understanding of AI tools such as Claude, Microsoft Copilot, and ChatGPT Enterprise, especially in finance or FP&A use cases.
• Ability to evaluate business processes, lead discovery efforts, and translate operational needs into scalable automation strategies.
• Familiarity with workflow automation, prompt engineering, and AI-assisted analysis for reporting, forecasting, and document-driven tasks.
