After School Program Facilitator - Schofield Barracks

About the role

Make a difference in the lives of military kids by facilitating the Operation Hero afterschool program at Soloman Elementary School on Schofield Barracks. This seasonal, part-time position runs for 12 weeks, 17.5 hours per week, twice per school year.

Responsibilities

• Complete the self-paced Operation Hero tutorial to understand the program’s purpose and delivery.
• Read weekly lessons from the Armed Services YMCA Operation Hero Facilitator Guide and develop detailed lesson plans, submitted at least one week prior to each program week.
• Work with the Branch Director to acquire suitable resources, including a low-cost snack following YMCA guidelines.
• Review student registration packets before the program starts to understand referrals and family situations.
• Create a spreadsheet with important information and emergency contact details.
• Prepare journals, folders, place cards, and other classroom tools before the program begins.
• Maintain an organized, safe, and clean program space.
• Complete all required documentation, including attendance reports, weekly reports, supply requests, accident/incident reports, and behavior logs.
• Respond in writing to suggestions or complaints within 48 hours after consulting with the Branch Director.
• Attend weekly meetings to assess class effectiveness and drive continual improvement.
• Incorporate YMCA core values (caring, respect, responsibility, and honesty) into lesson plans and daily interactions.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Branch Director to ensure program excellence.

Requirements

• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Sports background or experience leading sports exercises.
• Minimum of 2 years’ experience working with children in a group setting.
• Commitment to completing the full ten-week program.
• High school diploma or equivalent (preferred).

Pay

$18 per hour.

Schedule

• Mondays: 1:15 PM – 4:15 PM
• Tuesdays: 1:15 PM – 4:15 PM
• Wednesdays: 1:15 PM – 4:15 PM
• Thursdays: 1:15 PM – 4:15 PM
• Fridays: 1:15 PM – 4:15 PM
