About the role
The YMCA of Greenville is seeking an After School Counselor I to support their mission of strengthening the community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. This position involves planning and implementing daily programs for school-aged children, ensuring their safety, and fostering a positive learning environment.
Responsibilities
- Supervise and ensure the safety of children at all times.
- Build and maintain order and enthusiasm in a group.
- Schedule and implement lesson plans for program times using academic and enrichment activities.
- Maintain equipment and facilities in an appropriate manner.
- Report all program changes to relevant supervisors.
- Prepare for program responsibilities as assigned, including lesson plans, devotions, group activities, and family events.
- Assist in School’s Out Days, Holiday Camps, and Special Events as required.
- Participate in quarterly YMCA of Greenville Training events.
- Create an environment that promotes belonging, achievement, and relationships.
- Adhere to all program rules and guidelines.
- Maintain program standards and standards of quality.
- Able to drive a 14-passenger bus if over 20 years old with a valid driver's license, when programming allows.
Requirements
- Able to drive a 14-passenger bus if over 20 years old with a valid driver's license, when programming allows.
- Minimum of 6 months experience working with youth.
- Preferred minimum of 6 credits/units in Child Development/Elementary Education or 60 hours of approved Childcare related training (requires documentation).
- At least one year of experience working in a childcare setting.
Qualifications
- Able to adhere to all program rules and guidelines.
- Able to build and maintain positive relationships with children, parents, and colleagues.
- Able to attend and complete required staff trainings and meetings, including New Staff Orientation, CPR, First Aid, Blood Borne Pathogens, and Child Abuse prevention within the first 30 days of hire date.
- Able to assist in maintaining accurate records, including attendance rosters, medication logs, first aid logs, discipline reports, and incident reports.
- Able to assist in all areas of the branch and association operations as requested by management.
- Able to adhere to policies related to boundaries with consumers.
- Able to attend and complete required abuse risk management training.
- Able to follow mandated reporting requirements.
- Able to adhere to job-specific abuse risk management responsibilities.
Skills
- Ability to drive a 14-passenger bus if over 20 years old with a valid driver's license, when programming allows.
