After School Care /Child Care Substititue (18+ years old)

About the role

Bishop O’Gorman Catholic Schools is seeking an After School Teaching Assistant/Child Care Substitute to support a positive, faith-based learning environment. The role requires exhibiting the school’s Core Values—Faith, Unity, Excellence, and Integrity—while creating an environment of trust.

Responsibilities

• Assist the leader with planning and implementing activities that promote cognitive, social/emotional, language, physical, and self-help growth in a positive environment
• Provide and maintain a safe environment for children
• Apply child development principles to daily situations
• Use a positive and preventative approach to discipline: redirection, setting positive limits, clearly stating expectations, encouragement, and praise
• Provide choices and allow children to problem solve
• Reserve the use of “time out” for when children need to regain control instead of as a punishment
• Model healthy ways of handling anger and frustration through reinforced positive behavior
• Supervise and actively engage during activities
• Maintain privacy and confidentiality at all times
• Communicate effectively with parents
• Maintain good rapport and promote teamwork with staff
• Sanitize toys on a regular basis

Qualifications

• Previous child care experience preferred
• Strong interpersonal skills beneficial
• Ability to comprehend policies, procedures, and guidelines
• Mobility required
• Ability to set up and take down tables and participate in activities with children
• High energy, flexibility, and adaptability
• Willingness to be exposed to infectious disease, blood, and body fluids
• Familiarity with and ability to operate all equipment utilized in a childcare center
