After School Camp Counselor
About the Role
Join us at Shalom Austin for JCamps After School as an After School Camp Counselor! Counselors, along with their co-counselors, will work with a group of children each afternoon to lead them in various afterschool activities. Counselors are assigned to either our Kindergarten or 1st-5th grade groups, which may vary daily.
As a group leader and facilitator, the Counselor is responsible for day-to-day programming and supervision of their group, ensuring the needs of all children are met. Our program is inclusive, and Counselors should strive to build healthy relationships, provide meaningful activities, and foster positive interactions. Counselors will also assist with transportation from schools, including driving a 15-passenger van.
Working hours are 2:30pm-6:00pm, 5 days a week (with the possibility of a 3-day per week schedule).
Responsibilities
- Drive a 15-passenger van to transport children (required).
- Pick up children from local elementary schools every afternoon (vehicle provided).
- Manage the daily routine and activities for the assigned group.
- Ensure the emotional needs, health, and safety of children at all times.
- Implement group activities, crafts, and projects.
- Maintain accurate rosters of children in the group.
- Perform daily cleaning measures, such as sanitizing surfaces, bathrooms, and supplies.
- Maintain a constructive attitude and positive communication with administrative staff, fellow counselors, and children.
- Follow emergency management and safety policies.
- Encourage and model respect for personal space, equipment, and facilities.
Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years of age and have a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Driving experience is required; training on 15-passenger vans will be provided prior to transporting children.
- Possess enthusiasm, patience, a great sense of humor, a strong work ethic, positivity, and the ability to work well on a team and with children.
- Pass all required criminal history background checks (including an FBI fingerprint check).

Previous experience working with children is preferred but not required.
Pay
Hourly salary of $15.00-$17.00 per hour, depending on experience and education.
