About the role

We are seeking an outgoing and experienced After School/Camp Counselor to join our team! As a Counselor, your top priority will be to ensure your students have fun, learn and stay safe. You will oversee after-school program activities, including homework help, arts enrichment, learning games, and outdoor fun fitness. The ideal candidate loves the children and wants to share their interests with students!

Responsibilities

  • Plan and facilitate games, sports, and other outdoor activities
  • Create daily and weekly schedules catered to each group of students, their ages, and interests
  • Engage students and facilitate various fun learning activities
  • Absorb student progress
  • Prepare students for quarterly project and performance expos
  • Set up, take down, and maintain after-school materials, equipment, and supplies
  • Communicate with parents
  • Build strong relationships with diverse children and youth
  • Facilitate activities in an engaging, creative, and supportive way
  • Incorporate positive youth development, literacy, social skills, and creative arts in curriculum design
  • Show a keen awareness of and celebrate the vast cultural experiences of children and youth

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Previous experience as an afterschool or camp counselor or in a similar position
  • Dept. of Children and Families, 30 hour school age training hours, preferred
  • Experience creating lesson plans, implementing curriculum and doing other enrichment activities
  • Able to pass a Level 2 background screening
  • Bi-lingual preferred
  • Available on all School days, preferably between Monday-Friday 1:00pm-6:00pm (some flexibility available)
  • Fun, Energetic, Self-Starter
  • Highly organized and responsible
  • Excellent communication skills
  • First-aid and CPR certified, preferred
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the position
