Harvard Allston Land Company seeks an experienced Senior Manager for Planning and Development to facilitate coordination of complex planning, design implementation, design review, and permitting processes across development projects within its portfolio.

About the role

This position will lead and manage the planning and development activities for Harvard’s Allston campus, ensuring alignment with institutional goals, regulatory requirements, and community interests.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the planning, design, and permitting processes for development projects in Allston, including coordination with architects, engineers, contractors, and external stakeholders.
  • Manage design review processes to ensure projects meet institutional standards, regulatory requirements, and community expectations.
  • Facilitate communication and collaboration among Harvard departments, city agencies, and community groups to advance project approvals and implementation.
  • Develop and implement strategies for project delivery, risk management, and compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Monitor project timelines, budgets, and milestones, providing regular updates to senior leadership and stakeholders.
  • Support long-term planning initiatives for the Allston campus, including master planning and sustainability goals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in urban planning, architecture, engineering, real estate development, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 8–10 years of progressive experience in planning, development, or project management, with a focus on complex, large-scale projects.
  • Strong knowledge of zoning, permitting, and regulatory processes in Massachusetts, particularly in the City of Boston or Allston-Brighton area.
  • Experience managing design review processes and coordinating with architects, engineers, and contractors.
  • Excellent project management, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Ability to navigate complex organizational structures and build consensus among diverse groups.
  • Proficiency in project management software and tools.
