Aerosol Jet Applications Engineer
About the role
The Aerosol Jet® (AJ) Applications Engineer works with the Advanced Applications team to drive and manage the technical evaluation aspects of the sales process. The Applications team evaluates customer requests and develops demonstrations based on the AJ process and available materials. The engineer leads hands-on demonstrations, fabricates functional test parts, and collaborates on long-term R&D projects to advance the technology. Current focus areas include printed antennas, advanced semiconductor packaging, printed circuits, medical devices, printed heaters, and embedded sensors.
Responsibilities
- Work with customers to specify device performance requirements
- Work with commercial material suppliers to specify application material requirements
- Fabricate proof of concept devices with AJ systems
- Support user education on the AJ process, materials, and applications through journal and conference publications, training, technical notes, and online forums
- Collaborate with applications and new product development teams on R&D activities
- Travel up to 20% domestically and internationally to customer and vendor sites
Requirements
Ideal candidate is self-motivated with knowledge of electronics manufacturing, materials, processes, and technology, and excellent hands-on skills. Must thrive in a dynamic technical organization with a rapidly expanding customer base and possess strong professional communication skills in proposal writing, technical reports, verbal presentations, and small group consultation.
- Preferred: B.S. with 3-5 years' experience, M.S. or Ph.D. in physical sciences or engineering
- Working knowledge of general chemistry
- Working knowledge of simple DC electronic circuits and test procedures, preferably RF measurement techniques
- Working knowledge of a software language (Python, C++, MATLAB, or LabVIEW preferred)
- Preferred experience with Cognex machine vision software
- Preferred experience with optical microscopy and profilometry
- Preferred experience with CAD and additive manufacturing (e.g., SOLIDWORKS, FDM, or SLA)
- Preferred experience with simple machine shop procedures
- Preferred experience with laser materials processing
- Able to lift 25 lbs. and access components from the floor to a five-foot level
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office
- Strong work ethic – driven to exceed customer expectations within delivery timeframe
