Job Responsibilities

The Advocate Supervisor provides support, guidance, and programmatic supervision to volunteers assigned to advocate in Family Court through the South Carolina Guardian ad Litem Program. Key responsibilities include:

• Supporting office functions necessary for effective volunteer advocacy.
• Assisting with recruiting and training new volunteers.
• Assigning volunteers to child abuse/neglect cases and providing assistance with case management and court preparation.
• Aiding in planning and facilitating continuing education of volunteers.
• Performing direct child advocacy as the court-appointed Guardian ad Litem when needed.
• Exercising judgment and discretion concerning confidential information and case management.
• Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with volunteers, co-workers, and partner agencies.
• Training and supervising volunteers.
• Interpreting and applying laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.
• Maintaining accurate child and case-specific information in the database.
• Coordinating the receipt of monthly monitoring reports (MMR) and inputting data into the database.
• Assisting with recruiting a diverse and sufficient pool of volunteers.
• Performing administrative functions to promote effective and efficient achievement of program goals and objectives.
• Completing any special assignments or tasks as assigned.

Requirements

Minimum and additional requirements include:

• A high school diploma and relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience approved by DSHR.
• Position may require overnight travel, evening, and weekend work.
• Requires routine driver duties.
• Must have and maintain a valid driver's license.
• Work is performed primarily in an office environment, but travel and field work will be required.
