About the role

The Advocate Supervisor provides support, guidance, and programmatic supervision to volunteers assigned to advocate in Family Court through the South Carolina Guardian ad Litem Program. This role supports office functions for effective volunteer advocacy, assists with recruiting and training new volunteers, and inputs program information into the database for tracking county statistical data.

Responsibilities

  • Assign volunteers to child abuse/neglect cases and provide assistance with case management and court preparation.
  • Provide supervision and support to volunteers to ensure compliance with law, policy, and program objectives regarding the best interest of children.
  • Assist with the preparation for court, including court reports, and attend hearings with volunteers as required.
  • Maintain accurate child and case-specific information in the database; coordinate and input monthly monitoring reports (MMR) while tracking their receipt.
  • Assist with training new and existing volunteers according to program guidelines.
  • Assist with recruiting a diverse and sufficient pool of volunteers to ensure all cases are assigned, while maintaining policy guidelines for case assignments.
  • Perform administrative functions for the county office to promote effective and efficient achievement of program goals.
  • Perform direct child advocacy as the court-appointed Guardian ad Litem when there is an inadequate pool of volunteers.
  • Complete special assignments or tasks assigned by the County Director.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience (approved by the Division of State Human Resources).
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to maintain it.
  • Ability to work under limited supervision and exercise discretion concerning confidential information.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with volunteers, co-workers, and partner agencies.
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks, prioritize, and organize effectively.
  • Knowledge of computer applications and data entry.
  • Ability to interpret and apply laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Position may require overnight travel, evenings, and weekend work.
  • Routine driver duties and frequent lifting of up to 25 lbs.
  • May be required to report to work during emergency situations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree.

Schedule

Work is performed primarily in an office environment, but travel and fieldwork are required. Some risks and hazards may be present in travel areas.
