About the role
The Advocate Supervisor provides support, guidance, and programmatic supervision to volunteers assigned to advocate in Family Court through the South Carolina Guardian ad Litem Program. This role supports office functions for effective volunteer advocacy, assists with recruiting and training new volunteers, and performs direct child advocacy as the court-appointed Guardian ad Litem when volunteer coverage is insufficient.
Responsibilities
- Assign volunteers to child abuse/neglect cases and provide supervision and support to ensure compliance with law, policy, and program objectives regarding the best interest of the children.
- Assist volunteers with case management, court preparation, and attendance at hearings as required.
- Maintain accurate child and case-specific information in the database; coordinate and track monthly monitoring reports (MMR).
- Assist with training new and existing volunteers according to program guidelines.
- Recruit a diverse and sufficient pool of volunteers to ensure all cases are assigned.
- Perform administrative functions for the county office to promote effective and efficient achievement of program goals.
- Perform direct child advocacy as the court-appointed Guardian ad Litem when volunteer coverage is inadequate.
- Complete special assignments or tasks as directed by the County Director.
- Exercise judgment and discretion concerning confidential information and case management.
- Interpret and apply laws, regulations, policies, and procedures related to the Guardian ad Litem Program.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with volunteers, co-workers, and partner agencies.
Requirements
- A high school diploma and relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience approved by the Division of State Human Resources (DSHR).
- Valid driver’s license and ability to perform routine driving duties.
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, and overnight travel as required.
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
- Must be available to report to work during emergency situations.
- Work is performed primarily in an office environment, with travel and fieldwork in areas with known, predictable, and controllable risks.

- A bachelor’s degree is preferred.
