About the role
CSPNJ, a mental health nonprofit agency, is seeking Advocate Specialists to work in the mental health crisis unit at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, NJ.
Responsibilities
- Engage and provide peer support and advocacy to individuals waiting for a psychiatric evaluation.
- Provide transparent feedback and information to people in the Emergency Department.
Requirements
- MUST CLEAR HOSPITAL PRE-EMPLOYMENT SCREENING PRIOR TO ONBOARDING.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Preferred: Wellness and Recovery Action Plan (WRAP) training.
- Experience providing peer support and a commitment to helping others.
- Excellent communication, assessment, and interpersonal skills.
- Empathetic with good listening skills, patient and emotionally resilient.
- Willingness to disclose and speak openly about current or prior use of mental health and substance use.
- Ability to work with individuals with mental illness in a caring and professional manner.
- Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office).
- Bilingual skills are preferred/ a plus.
- Valid NJ Driver’s License with acceptable driving record.

Schedule
- Schedule 1: Tuesday, Thursday: 2:00pm-7:00pm | 10 hours
- Schedule 2: Monday, Wednesday, Friday: 2:00pm-7:00pm | 15 hours
- Schedule 3: Monday - Friday: 2:00pm-7:00pm | 25 hours
