About the role

The Advocacy Coaches are a critical part of the College of Law's learning community. Coaches are involved in curricular and co-curricular activities and programs relating to student learning and professional formation throughout law school. The appointments will be as either Head Advocacy Coach or Assistant Advocacy Coach to coach a Moot Court or Mock Trial competition team in the 2026-2027 academic year. All competitions will likely be in person.

Responsibilities

  • Coaching Moot Court or Mock Trial teams
  • Guiding and mentoring law students
  • Facilitating regular practices
  • Traveling with the teams as required
  • Reimbursing travel expenses according to UNT System policies

Requirements

  • J.D. degree
  • Superb professional qualifications
  • Commitment to UNT Dallas College of Law's goals and curricular method
  • Reside in the DFW area
  • Head coaches must have: Five or more years of practice experience; Substantial and extensive trial, appellate, or competition coach experience; or be approved by the Director of Advocacy Competitions
  • Assistant coaches must have at least one or more years of practice experience

  • Strategic planning and case preparation skills
  • Deep subject knowledge and legal/policy understanding
  • Experience coaching advocacy competition teams or competing at a high level (preferred)

Pay

$1,500 for each competition, no more than one competition per term.

Schedule

As required to meet the academic and competition schedule.

  • Lifting and moving objects up to 20 pounds
  • Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting or standing
