Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Performs a wide variety of investigative work, including collecting evidence, conducting interviews, and following up on leads
- Examine the scene of crime to determine the exact nature of violations
- Search for clues and make preliminary interrogations of suspects
- Gather and label evidence that is found
- Interview complainants, suspects, witnesses, and other people who may have information related to crimes or suspected criminal activity
- Maintain communications with informers and surveillance over suspected law violators and participate in the surveillance of suspected violators
- Maintain investigative files and ensure that this information remains confidential
- Attend court and presents evidence and testimony, as needed
- Assemble and organize statements and evidence for presentation with park leadership, HR, or Law Enforcement agencies
- Research, collect, analyze, and integrate information to prepare criminal incident reports, data, and digital intelligence reports
- Work with law enforcement and legal officials to present analytical information in legal proceedings such as depositions and courtroom testimony
- Identify crime patterns and trends using computer databases and information from internal and external sources including external agencies, the media, social media, crime bulletins, and review of crime reports and supplements
- Utilize a variety of databases and software applications to compile statistical and criminal data to prepare draft responses, criminal statistical analysis reports, and oral and written presentations incorporating spreadsheets, maps, graphs, charts, and slides
Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years of age to comply with Iowa Child Labor Laws
- Ability to work flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Must be able to work third shift (overnight)
- Must have reliable transportation to and from your scheduled shift
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and a good driving record
- Must possess practical knowledge of the constitutional rights of citizens
- Must possess strong verbal and written communication skills and be able to convey complex concepts to a wide variety of audiences
- Must maintain certifications as required by assignment
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, and remain on feet for majority of the workday
- Occasionally stoop, twist, kneel, bend, squat, or reach above shoulders
- Walk, stand, or run on uphill, downhill, or uneven surfaces
- Remain sedentary for extended periods of time, while using a computer/camera equipment
- Carry, push, pull, lift, and hold objects weighing 30 pounds or more
- Have good visual acuity, night vision, and peripheral vision
- Adequately hear a variety of conversational voice tones and pitches
Working Conditions
- Frequent exposure to variable outside temperatures, including high heat, cold, direct sun, humidity, dust, rain, snow, ice, and other weather conditions
- Frequent interruptions and requests that may require reprioritization of activities
- Subject to dark environments, particularly during overnight shifts
- Subject to constant repetitive motion, high noise levels, flashing lights, and heavily populated environments
