About the Role

A Specialist in Water Damage - Advanced is an expert in drying and repairing residential buildings, large commercial, industrial, and institutional buildings, and their contents. This role serves as a local, regional, and national resource for BELFOR, with competencies in electronics, machinery management, books and documents, and specialized drying. The specialist delimits and dimensions large losses, specifies drying systems (including heat and desiccant), and possesses practical knowledge of electrical demand for drying equipment and temporary energy needs. Proficient in using plans, floor plans, and integrating HVAC systems to enhance drying, this position can lead multiple teams in CAT situations and assumes significant production responsibility. This is the highest level (Level 4) in BELFOR’s progressive Water Damage career path.

Responsibilities

  • Direct teams in the proper use of PPE for each job.
  • Review daily project requirements, document progress, and notify managers of challenges.
  • Provide field documentation, including photographic records, charts, and sketches for TPA projects.
  • Use acquired skills to draw sketches, read plans, develop moisture content records, complete psychrometric records, and determine drying objectives.
  • Calculate humidity load in buildings, affected cubic meters, and request additional support for large water losses.
  • Determine electrical consumption of drying equipment, manage 220/110 converters, and assess temporary power source requirements.
  • Perform daily vehicle safety and maintenance inspections, ensuring cleanliness and operational readiness.
  • Adhere to BELFOR standards for safeguarding client property.
  • Demonstrate deep customer service knowledge and ability to work under time constraints to meet deadlines.
  • Travel periodically, work nights and weekends as required, and accurately report time worked, equipment, and consumables used.
  • Attend BELFOR-sponsored operations and mandatory security training courses.

Requirements

  • Supervise and self-perform Water Damage Basic and Intermediate tasks.
  • Manage large loss sites or specialized remediation requirements.
  • Create moisture maps using provided tools and knowledge.
  • Supervise multiple crews across multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Select appropriate disposal options and secure liability releases for disposed items.

Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of IICRC S500 Water Damage Standard and IICRC S520 Mold Remediation Standard.
  • Current IICRC ASD designation.
  • Mastery of BELFOR Water Damage Book and proper use of meters (e.g., IR camera) to distinguish affected vs. unaffected materials.
  • Understanding of air mover calculation, LGR dehumidification, electrical power specifications, and circuits.
  • Proficiency with HydroSensor, Thermal Hygrometer, NavPro Moisture Meter (or equivalent), and data recording.
  • Demonstrated experience in building environments, thermodynamics, psychrometry, "burping" a building, and containment of HVAC supply/return air (CAT 3/Mold).
  • Eligible to operate a motor vehicle per BELFOR’s policy.
  • Strong sense of urgency, professional demeanor, positive attitude, and work ethic.
  • English language literacy and fluency.

Physical Demands

  • Frequent lifting in excess of 50 lbs.
  • Occasional assisted lifting of 41+ lbs (up to 50% of the time).
  • Access and mobility in tight spaces.
  • Sustained periods of standing, sitting, walking, bending, and kneeling.
  • Ability to use mobile devices for data and time collection.
