About the role

The Systems Engineering Manager 2 position supports Advanced Programs at Northrop Grumman Defense Systems. This role leads and manages a multi-disciplined systems engineering team through the Technology Maturation and Risk Reduction (TMRR) phase, focusing on system architecture, requirements development, and interface definition.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a multi-disciplined systems engineering team supporting the Product Definition IPT through the Technology Maturation and Risk Reduction (TMRR) phase, including planning, tasking, performance management, and staff development.
  • Apply Modeling, Simulation & Analysis (SME) methods, along with supporting model-based systems engineering (MBSE) and digital engineering tools (e.g., Cameo, DOORS, JIRA, Confluence) to develop, analyze, and maintain system models, requirements baselines, and technical data products.
  • Plan, coordinate, and track cost, schedule, technical performance, and quality for assigned work packages, ensuring completion of projects on schedule and within budget consistent with program objectives.
  • Collaborate closely with internal and external stakeholders, including program leadership, IPT/product owners, specialty engineering disciplines, and customer representatives, to define scope, resolve technical and operational issues, and support technical reviews.
  • Develop and execute verification and validation strategies, including test planning, analytical verification and requirements traceability, to ensure logical and systematic conversion of customer requirements into effective system solutions.
  • Identify, assess, and help mitigate technical risks and opportunities during TMRR, including conducting modeling and simulation driven trade studies, timeline analyses, and design assessments to support sound technical decision making.
  • Provide clear, concise technical and programmatic briefings to leadership and customers, and represent the MS&A and systems engineering organization in technical meetings, design reviews, and status reviews.
  • Foster a high-engagement, inclusive team environment through mentoring, coaching, and performance feedback, and support staffing, recruiting, and skill development within the functional homeroom.
  • Interpret and execute department procedures and operating guidelines, recommending improvements as appropriate, and ensure adherence to engineering processes, quality standards, and configuration management practices.

  • 2+ years of experience with Agile team execution and use of digital engineering / systems engineering toolsets such as JIRA, Confluence, DOORS, and/or Cameo.
  • Experience performing Modeling, Simulation & Analysis (MS&A) of complex systems (e.g., system performance, mission/engagement analysis, system-of-systems behavior) to inform design decisions and trade studies.

Qualifications

  • Active DoD Top Secret Clearance and SAP approval within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business needs.
  • 6+ years of experience in a multi-disciplined systems engineering environment supporting development efforts, preferably during Technology Maturation and Risk Reduction (TMRR) or similar early lifecycle phases.
  • 2+ years’ experience leading engineering teams in a functional, programmatic, or technical capacity, including mentoring, coaching, and performance management.
  • Solid understanding of MS&A integrates with Systems Engineering and Integration & Test processes during TMRR, including requirements verification/validation planning, interface management, and use of modeling, simulation, and supporting MBSE approaches to inform design trades, risk reduction, and performance assessment.
  • Experience with MS&A tools and environments (e.g., MATLAB/Simulink, Python-based analysis, or mission/system-level simulation frameworks) for evaluating system performance and conducting trade studies.
