About the role

Under the clinical supervision of the Medical Director of the Department is accountable for the clinical management of patients.

Responsibilities

  • Assumes responsibility for the initial evaluation and treatment of patients in assigned areas.
  • Performs initial history and physical as evidenced by appropriate documentation.
  • Writes standard orders in accordance with hospital policy.
  • Writes appropriate orders related to pre-existing conditions.
  • Discusses with the attending physician and nursing staff physical and/or emotional findings, which may interfere with care of the patient.
  • Evaluates nursing, medical, social and educational needs on assigned patients.
  • Initiates referral to appropriate ancillary departments and community resources based on patient need and documents on the progress note.
  • Writes progress notes for each visit documenting pertinent information regarding patient progress and treatment regime.
  • Writes orders appropriate to the patient's care requirements in compliance with existing contract.
  • Establishes medical diagnoses in compliance with contract.
  • Refers to the physician or designee those problems which require consultation and documents same on progress note.
  • Makes immediate referral of acute and or life-threatening patient conditions to physician or designee.
  • Documents physical findings and treatment plan pertaining to same.
  • Performs technical functions according to the contract.
  • Documents results of technical functions performed.
  • Reports to physician or designee any abnormal findings related to same.
  • Maintains medical records and documentation in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Participates actively in quality improvement projects of the department.
  • Participates in nursing committees and other activities that promote the growth and development of nursing and/or patient care.
  • Supervises and mentors Oncology Nurse Coordinator/GI Nurse Navigator and Medical Assistants.
  • Assesses patients in Infusion Therapy on an as needed basis and manages patients who require immediate attention.
  • Manages patients on an urgent basis, decreasing need to send patients to the Emergency Department during regular business hours.
  • Works with Clinical Trials to manage care according to protocols.
  • Assesses patients for potential eligibility.
  • Follows patients through the care continuum parameters set by the study.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of Physician Assistant Program OR Nurse Practitioner Program with a master’s degree.
  • Experience: 1-2 years of oncology experience preferred.
  • Licensure: Current registration with the Maryland State Board of Examiners of Nurses, as a Certified Adult Nurse Practitioner OR Licensed Physician Assistant. Completion of all RQI lessons and assessments quarterly, to maintain active CPR card for BLS. Maintains active ONS Chemotherapy/Immunotherapy Provider Card and certificate of added qualification. OCN preferred or eligible.

Pay

$82,774.65 - $137,823.94 Final salary offer will be based on the candidate's qualifications, education, experience and alignment with our organizational needs.
