Advanced Practice Provider, Surgery-Oral Surgery
About the Role
Performs responsible clinical care in collaboration with the unit physician and under approved protocols. Manages the medical aspects of care in the observation, assessment, diagnosis, intervention, evaluation, rehabilitation, and counsel of persons who are ill, injured, or infirm, or experiencing changes in normal health processes. Promotes and maintains health and prevents illness in a clinical setting.
The Department of Surgery, Division of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas, is seeking a full-time Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to work collaboratively with Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Attending Physicians in the delivery of comprehensive inpatient and outpatient care, with opportunities to participate in clinical research.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate and manage new and established oral and maxillofacial surgery patients.
- Order, perform, and interpret appropriate diagnostic and laboratory tests.
- Assist with perioperative patient management.
- Serve as a liaison between the Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery service and other medical and surgical services.
- Provide patient and family education, perioperative and discharge planning, postoperative follow-up, wound and surgical site management.
- Coordinate appropriate ancillary services to support comprehensive patient care.
- Work across a broad scope of practice including the operating room, inpatient units, emergency and consult services, and outpatient clinic settings.
Qualifications
Physician Assistant
- Completion of a physician assistant program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA).
- No experience required.
Required Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications:
- Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
- Licensed Physician Assistant by the Texas Physician Assistant Board/Texas Medical Board (TPAB/TMB).
Current students or recent graduates who have not yet completed their program or obtained certification/licensure are eligible to apply, but official employment is contingent upon successful completion of an accredited program, NCCPA certification, and TPAB/TMB licensure.
Nurse Practitioner
- Completion of a graduate-level (or higher) nurse practitioner program accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
- No experience required.
Required Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications:
- Certification by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP).
- Licensed Registered Nurse (RN) by the Texas Board of Nursing (TBON).
- Licensed Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in a nurse practitioner clinical area of specialization by the Texas Board of Nursing (TBON).
Current RNs or recent graduates who have not yet completed their program or obtained certification/licensure are eligible to apply, but official employment is contingent upon successful completion of an accredited program, ANCC/AANP certification, and APRN licensure.
