About the role
The Department of Medicine – Division of General Internal Medicine is seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to support the Hospitalist Medicine Inpatient service by providing initial and ongoing assessment and management of urgent care issues related to internal medicine or critical care needs located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin at Froedtert Hospital.
Responsibilities
- Collaborates with interdisciplinary health care teams in diagnosis and treatment of conditions requiring medical intervention in inpatient environment as a member of the Hospital Service.
- Writes accurate and timely progress notes, procedure notes, and/or admission and transfer orders.
- Orders, performs, and interprets screening and diagnostic procedures and tests, and appropriately communicates and documents information.
- Privileged to perform procedures beyond core as identified by the Hospitalist services.
- Facilitates and communicates with patient, family, and staff to promote continuity of care across the continuum of care.
- Attends required training and meets key regulatory requirements, including those of the privileging institution, CMS, and the Joint Commission.
- Evaluates quality outcomes for the patients receiving care of this team through participation in the development of quality indicators and outcomes dashboard.
- Acquires information on the most current development and trends in the Physician Assistant field and/or Nurse Practitioner field, through educational programs, in-services, professional associates, and current literature.
Requirements
- Previous hospital medicine or inpatient experience preferred; clinical rotations in internal or hospitalist medicine a plus.
- Advanced Practice Nurse: Master’s Degree or higher in Nursing.
- Physician Assistant: Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Physician Assistant Studies.
- Wisconsin Physician Assistant License.
- Certification by NCCPA.
- AHA BLS, DEA.
Qualifications
- Nurse Practitioner: Wisconsin RN License.
- Wisconsin Advanced Practice Nurse Prescriber License.
- Acute Care preferred, Adult or FNP considered.

Pay
Competitive salary commensurate with experience.
Schedule
Rotating monthly schedule of 8-10.5 hours shifts with average 36-hour work week. Shifts vary from 4pm-12am, 3pm-1am OR 5pm-1am, 4pm-2am, weekends 12pm-10:30 pm, and 1 major and 1 minor holiday per year. On average, work every 3rd weekend.
