Advanced Practice Nurse (Nurse Practitioner)

About the role

Nurse Practitioners at the Indian Health Service (IHS) are dedicated professionals who provide comprehensive healthcare services to American Indian and Alaska Native communities. Guided by the IHS mission to improve the health of these populations, Nurse Practitioners play a crucial role in delivering compassionate and culturally appropriate care.

Responsibilities

• Provide primary and specialty healthcare services to patients in a variety of settings.
• Diagnose and treat illnesses and injuries, including preventive care.
• Collaborate with other healthcare providers to develop and implement treatment plans.
• Manage chronic conditions and coordinate care with specialists as needed.
• Conduct health assessments and screenings to identify potential health issues early.
• Develop and implement health education programs for patients and community members.

Requirements

• A current license to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in at least one state.
• A Master’s degree in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited program.
• Current certification as a Nurse Practitioner from a nationally recognized organization.
• Experience working with diverse patient populations, particularly those from American Indian and Alaska Native communities.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to build trust and rapport with patients.
• Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.

Qualifications

• Completion of a graduate nursing program accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) or the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN).
• Pass a background check and drug screening.
• Pass a physical examination that meets the requirements of the Department of Health and Human Services.

Pay

The pay range for this position is $80,000 to $120,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications.

Schedule

Hours may vary based on the needs of the community and the individual’s schedule preferences. Shifts may include day, evening, and weekend hours.
