Advanced Practice Nurse (Nurse Practitioner)

About the role

Nurse Practitioners at the Indian Health Service (IHS) are dedicated professionals who provide comprehensive healthcare services to American Indian and Alaska Native communities. Guided by IHS’s mission to improve the health of these populations, Nurse Practitioners play a crucial role in delivering compassionate care in underserved areas.

Responsibilities

• Provide primary and specialty healthcare services
• Diagnose and treat illnesses and injuries
• Prescribe medications and treatments
• Collaborate with other healthcare providers
• Develop and implement patient care plans
• Conduct health screenings and assessments
• Provide education and counseling on health promotion and disease prevention

Requirements

• Current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner in the state of practice
• Completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program
• Experience in providing healthcare services to American Indian and Alaska Native communities preferred
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Nursing (MSN) or higher
• Current certification as a Nurse Practitioner
• Passing scores on relevant national certification exams
• Knowledge of cultural competency and community-based healthcare delivery
